Peasant offers a familial charm and cozy atmosphere. The setting is "Manhattan meets Tuscany" —with an eclectic assortment of artwork hung on walls painted rich deep red or warm gray flannel. The restaurant is owned and run by Chris and Mary Ellen Alberti. It is more than likely that one of their five children will be your hostess or server, pour your drink or prepare your dinner. Owner Chris Alberti, who refers to himself as a "humble cook," along with chef John D'Avignon, create hearty dishes with Traditional Rustic European influence. All ingredients are mindfully sourced—using local/regional and organic whenever possible. The menu changes seasonally except for a few favorite mainstays. There are several special starters, entrees and desserts each evening. Peasant offers a beautiful wine list and full bar including many locally distilled spirits and locally brewed beer.
